Oakton, VA is a great place to call home, but don’t just take my word for it. It made CNN Money’s Best Places to Live list in 2011. The community of approximately 35,000 residents is filled with tree lined streets, beautiful homes and some great schools. If you’re interested in buying a home in Oakton, contact me today and I’ll help you find a great property for your family.

Oakton is located in close proximity to both Washington D.C. and Tyson’s Corner, making this community a logical choice for commuters. It is located just off the U.S. 66 and SR 123. The nearby communities of Vienna or Falls Church can provide access to Metro Stations for those wanting to skip the notorious Washington D.C. traffic.

Oakton is known for its beautiful, established oak trees, but that isn’t the only beautiful greenery in this fine city. There are also many wonderful parks. Blake Lane Dog Park is in the area and allows off-leash exercising of furry friends. Runners, hikers and walkers might enjoy a trip to Difficult Run Stream Valley Park. It features unpaved trails perfect for getting in a little exercise.  Golfers can head to Oak Marr Golf Complex for a challenging game of golf on the par 3 course. Oak Marr Park is another beautiful outdoor space in the area.

If you’re interested in getting involved with the local community and if you enjoy outdoor recreation, you might want to look in to the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. This volunteer based organization headquartered in nearby Vienna manages hiking trails in the area and provides a fun and helpful outlet to volunteers. Potomac Mountain Club is also available for those that enjoy rock climbing and mountaineering in the area.

Getting a bite to eat is both easy and delicious in Oakton. In the city itself you’ll find Famous Daves, McDonalds, Subway and many local restaurants. Nearby Fairfax has an Outback Steakhouse, P.F Changs and Ruth’s Chris Steak House. Plus an abundance of great Washington D.C. restaurants are only a short drive or train ride away.

Shopping hotspots in the area include some adorable local stores. Nearby Fairfax has a Trader Joes, Wegmans and Super H Mart while Vienna is home to a Whole Foods. Fair Oaks Mall mall with stores like Talbots, Michael Kors, JCPenney and Express is close by as well as Tysons Corner.

The area is known for great schools. All of the public schools are operated by Fairfax County Public Schools. You can explore the zoned schools for each home you are considering using their helpful boundary finder tool.  I recommend carefully researching area schools before making a home purchase since where you live will have a big impact on the type of education your children will receive.  To enhance education out of the classroom a public library is available with 24 computers, books, magazines, CDs and DVDs and much more in its collection.  For more information on schools visit, Best Schools in Northern VA

Oakton is part of Fairfax County, VA and as such gets to enjoy the many cultural opportunities located nearby. Each year the county holds a Celebrate Fairfax festival (formerly known as the Fairfax County Fair) at the county government center in Fairfax City. There is also an international children’s festival held each year at Wolf Trap National Park for Performing Arts and the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival.

If beautiful tree lined streets and quaint family homes sound like your ideal living environment, consider a move to Oakton. This small community has a lot to offer. Anything you can’t get in Oakton is easily accessible through the many nearby communities. With a great location and proximity to Washington D.C. Oakton, VA is a wonderful place to live.
