With beautiful tree lined streets, gorgeous homes and upscale atmosphere McLean, VA is a great place to put down some roots. Whether you’re looking to buy a home or a condo, an experienced realtor can help you discover prospective properties in this unique Northern Virginia town. You’ll find McLean has plenty of shopping, mouthwatering restaurants and a variety of cultural opportunities soon to be right at your front door.

Ranked as one of the wealthiest areas in the country, McLean is home to members of congress and the government, wealthy businesspeople and others looking for an upscale community with large and beautiful homes. It is located in Northern VA between the George Washington Parkway and the town of Vienna in Fairfax County. Technically not a town itself, McLean is considered an unincorporated community. Notable residents of the area include Newt Gingrich, Colin Powell and Dick Cheney.

Shopping is abundant in upscale McLean. You’ll find a multitude of shops, many of which are high end retailers, including Micheal Kors and Saks Fifth Avenue just a short drive away in neighboring Tysons Corner. A local shopping center, Langley Shopping Center, has everything you might need including a pharmacy, gym, cleaners and more.  The area is also home to hotels, fine restaurants and a 386 seat performing arts theater known as Alden Theater.

If you’re in need of some weekend entertainment, you’ll find plenty of options in McLean. The Claude Moore Colonial Farm National Park provides a unique farm experience and showcases the farming skills and methods of our forbearers. Great Falls Park provides stunning views of natural waterfalls on the Potomac. Art lovers can check out the latest exhibit at Emerson Gallery. Clemyjontri Park is a unique park where all children, regardless of abilities, can play together. It’s one of a kind design features ramps, special swings, lowered monkey bars and sensory rich play equipment to meet the needs of children in wheelchairs, with vision impairment, etc. Other attractions in the area include Patowmack Canal and Turkey Run Park.

McLean is close to Washington D.C. and is just 8 miles northwest of downtown. Traffic is notoriously bad heading into our nation’s capital so many choose to utilize public transportation. From McLean you can catch the McLean to Crystal City metro bus line for easy access to a metro station that will take you in and out of the city.

Foodies will find many tasty options to enjoy in McLean. J. Gilbert’s is a local favorite and features an excellent menu. In the restaurant diners enjoy mouthwatering steaks with many different fine cuts to satisfy any meat lover. Other dining options in the area include Café Deluxe and Härth located in the local Hilton.

A great public library is located in McLean, Fairfax County Public Library. This library is award winning and regularly ranks on the top 10 list for U.S. libraries. Being just a few miles from Washington D.C. also opens many possibilities for visiting other libraries, historic sites and museums.

There are many wonderful schools in the area as McLean residents are zoned to attend the Fairfax County Public Schools. Several private schools are also in the area including The Langley School (K-8), The Madiera School (9-12) and The Potomac School (K-12). I recommend researching available schools and residency requirements before making a home purchase if this is an important factor to you.  For more information on schools, check out Best Schools in Northern VA.
